Чин закладки храма был совершён митрополитом Нижегородским и Арзамасским Георгием 4 декабря 2016 года, в праздник Введения во храм Пресвятой Богородицы. Великое освящение храма состоялось 14 июля 2018 года.

Это первый храм в Нижнем Новгороде, освящённый в честь иконы «Взыскание погибших». Главная икона храма создана нижегородскими иконописцами и освящена в дни Великого поста в Спасо-Вознесенском (Елеонском) монастыре г. Иерусалима у первообраза.

Достоверных сведений о происхождении образа «Взыскание погибших» не сохранилось. Первое упоминание относится к VII веку («О покаянии Феофила, эконома церковного во граде Адане»), однако иконография образа Богородицы перед которым молился Феофил, неизвестна.

This is the first Nizhny Novgorod temple consecrated in honor of the icon «Seeking of the lost». The main icon of the temple was created by Nizhny Novgorod iconographers and consecrated in the days of Great Lent in the Ascension Monastery in Mount of Olives (Jerusalem) at the prototype.

There is no reliable info about the origin of the «Seeking of the lost». The first mention refers to the 7th century (“About the repentance of Theophilus, the oikonomos of the church in the city of Adana”). However, the iconography of the image of the Vergin in front of which Theophilus prayed is unknown.
